THE CHURCH
COMMERCIAL FARMING GROUP
The Church Commercial Farming Group (TCCFG) is a conglomerate of national Heads of Church Denominations, which was formed with the twofold mission of addressing the issue of food security in the Bahamas, and creating agriculture entrepreneurial opportunities for our members and the indigenous population.
OUR OPPORTUNITY
The Bahamas imports a little over a billion dollars (USD$1,000,000,000) of fruits, vegetables, dairy, eggs, poultry, beef and pork to feed its population, as well as support its thriving tourism sector each year. The importance of food security, which is an important objective for any nation, is paramount in Bahamian conversation, especially since the COVID 19 Pandemic.
TCCFG recognizes that there is an eminent need for structural, organizational, administrative, and technical teams to work collaboratively to address the food security needs of our country (The Bahamas). So, as a national church group, we have involved ourselves in both the examination of the issues and the execution of workable solutions.
OUR APPROACH
We are developing a "feed ourselves" program within the national church grouping, which helps to drive the national food sustainability initiatives within our country. We believe this can happen with a simple two-tiered approach:
Backyard Farming (Yard To Table Program)
Engage families within the local churches to start personal backyard food growing projects with the view to becoming producers of what they consume, thus possibly reducing their food bills, while increasing their health and nutrition.
Commercial Farming (Farm To Store Program)
Establish a church cooperative group that will engage in commercial farming, inclusive of production and processing with seasoned farmers and business persons, to create a sustainable business model which can benefit both the Bahamas Church and the nation.
